So, I have a couple ideas on what stories to podfic next, but several people have commented on some of my podfic that they were glad a particular story was podficced. So, I thought I'd throw this out there: I'm taking requests/suggestions for SGA and/or H50 stories to podfic.

So, if you have any SGA or H50 stories you've always wanted to have as a podfic (and think I'd be a good reader for it), please let me know. I've also posted this to
Tumblr if you want to respond there. However, communicating via Tumblr can be iffy.

Some guidelines:

  • No deathfic (exceptions include death that is only temporary)

  • No rape/noncon/dubcon

  • Not all stories lend themselves to being read aloud

  • I have to get permission from the author if they don't already have blanket permission out there

  • McShep or McDanno preferred, but I'll read gen and preslash as well. Other pairings? Depends on the pairing and story.

Entry edited 7/4/15 to add H50 info.

Hey, Pandora_Gold here, I'm the one who commented on your Turn Into Something Beautiful podfic post on AO3 and was sooooo happy you Podfic-ed it.

You asked if there was anything I would l love to have podfic-ed, and I'm sure I could come up with hundreds of fics, but here are the ones I could come up with off the top of my head. I love all these fics, and I noticed they are all a little on the long side, so... sorry if they are not quite what you were asking for. They are all happy endings, or close enough to make me happy, and even if you don't Podfic any, or can't get the rights, you should read them (if you haven't) they are some of my favorite.

Also none of them seem to have very descriptive summary's so I gave you a brief idea what they are about.

Sooo, some of the fics I wish were podfic-ed in no specific order are:

The Difference Engine (http://archiveofourown.org/works/568453/chapters/1017585) by copperbadge (http://archiveofourown.org/users/copperbadge/pseuds/copperbadge)
22,031 words -Robot!John sort of, but not really

Keepsakes (http://archiveofourown.org/works/623234) by Taste_is_Sweet (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Taste_is_Sweet/pseuds/Taste_is_Sweet)
11,657 words -What if John couldn't be cured after the Iratus bug bite?

Apocalypse Rising (http://archiveofourown.org/works/74056) by sian1359 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/sian1359/pseuds/sian1359)
81,681 words -AU no Atlantis, but some how the Wraith find their way to earth. John is still a pilot in the air force, on leave when the attack starts.

Dragonlord (http://archiveofourown.org/works/119773/chapters/167792) by Icarus (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Icarus/pseuds/Icarus)
87,066 words -John becomes a Dragon Rider, Rodney already is. (This is a cross over with the Pern Dragon Rider books, but I love it cause you don't have to have read the books to get it. ...huh, I just realized this one might be seen as dub-con. when their dragons have sex, so do they... Don't know what your version of dub-con is...)

And anything and everything by Keiramarcos (http://keiramarcos.com/) but my favorite is Ties That Bind (http://keiramarcos.com/fan-fiction-index/stargate-atlantis-fan-fiction/ties-that-bind-sga-au/)
Epicly long words -An AU in a world where instead of being split between male and female, there are Dom's and Sub's. Very BDSM but everything is very consensual, but there are some past non-con flash backs, so this might not fit your criteria. the non-con is not between John and Rodney. My other favorite of hers is The Sentinels of Atlantis (http://keiramarcos.com/fan-fiction-index/stargate-atlantis-fan-fiction/the-sentinels-of-atlantis-atlantissentinel/). again epicly long words -Crossover with the old TV show Sentinels, but again all you need to know is there are people out there who have super senses called Sentinels, and each Sentinel needs a person to ground them called a Guide.

Unnatural Selection (http://archiveofourown.org/works/113891/chapters/158923) by auburn (http://archiveofourown.org/users/auburn/pseuds/auburn)
164,390 words -WraithHybrid!John, Todd is a cool character, complete AU of what might have happened if human's didn't get complete control of Atlantis. (This one is a little on the dark side, but I fell in love with it, and it is the one that has a happy ending to me, but might not be happy for everyone... All the important people live, and they are happy! Thats all I need. Oh, and this one also has some Todd/John that is a bit dob-con so this might not fit your criteria ether.)

So the last three might not be what you like, but the first three are consensual, and happy endings. looking back at this list I realized I really like creature/Other!John fics. hmmm... I guess I have a thing ;-)

I've read all but Unnatural Selection. That one is no go for me. Wraith/human squicks me. Ties that Bind is definitely epic, but is a WIP. I checked Keira's page and she says this about podfic: "7. Contact me directly about podfics as there are several authorized projects in progress and there would be no need for someone to duplicate." Also, I saw this (in answer to a question about podfic): "It would depend on which fics you wanted to do podfics for. There is already a podfic project in the works for Tangled Destinies and Ties That Bind." The comment was from June 2010, so if someone is working on it, it is taking them a really long time! Although I did see she is working on The Ties that Bind: The North Star! The only podfic I found on her site is for her story Touching Secrets. Link to podfic at the bottom. http://keiramarcos.com/2009/12/20/touching-secrets/

I'm just not willing to take on Sentinels of Atlantis. I added up the word count and all the stories total 257,103 words! I might be willing to consider the first story in the series, but I don't know if she'd give permission if she knew that. Also, it doesn't read aloud very well, I tried it out. You sure you might not want one of her Stand Alone stories? Like Emotional Clockwork or Human Nature? :)

The Difference Engine is a great story, but makes me sad. So, no podfic, sorry. Apocalypse Rising is also great, but doesn't really grab me for podficcing. Dragonlord by Icarus was also good, but didn't grab me. I tend to have to really, really like a story to immerse myself in it. I've read all the Pern books. Anne McCaffrey sort of worked around the dubcon as far as I remember. Icarus doesn't have blanket permission. Interestingly enough, another of her stories (Out of Bounds) was suggested by someone else. And it is also over 200,000 words! I just can't face doing it either. I'd rather do more, slightly shorter ones. :)

So, that brings us to Keepsakes by Taste_is_Sweet. I very much like that story! She let me do her story Hunted, so I bet I can get her permission. I've asked her via the comments at the story on AO3.

Thanks very much for the suggestions and I'm glad at least one met my picky brain's criteria!

*Sigh* yeah I figured that was the case for the long stories, but hope springs eternal... and I thought I would ask. :-) hmmm, I didn't see that about someone else working on Ties That Bind, I wonder if they just gave up. I know I probably would ;-) But I can hope its just taking them forever...

Also I love all of Keiramarcos' stories, I was just naming my favorites. If you feel inspired to read Emotional Clockwork, or Human Nature I would love it! (And I'm sure many other people would as well)

Yeah, I totally get needing it to grab you! I draw, and I have lost count of the number of projects I start because I kinda like it, and never finish it after I hit a snag because it just can't hold me.

Interesting that someone else suggested another of Icarus' fics... I wonder if I have read it, I should go check it out...

Oo, yay, you like Keepsakes!!! If you read that it will be AWESOME!!! *dances around*

It's always interesting to me to find out what other people find sad and not. oddly enough Keepsakes and Difference Engien are equally as sad to me... hmmm...

So that is one hit out of seven, which isn't too bad! :-D

The Hardest thing about making suggestions for other people is trying to gauge their tastes, and if I inspired you with one of my favorites I am happy! yay! Can't wait!

This is awesome that you are taking suggestions! Thanks for listening XD (...or would it be 'thanks for reading')

Hi! I want to give you huuuuge thanks for keeping this fandom alive. After you posted Hindsight and Turn Into Something Beautiful I was floating on air, they are on my favorites list. And I didn’t even hope they will be recorded someday, because we, fans, don’t get many new sga podfics these days. So every new audio made by you makes me a little happier. Thank you!

When I found out about your post here, I decided to try my luck. So, here it goes:

Circuitous by Rageprufrock
Dr. John Sheppard was not as excited about joining the project as Rodney was to have him on board.
This fic tagged as gen but I always read it as mcshep or at least pre slash. Rodney is a little on a military side but still has his brain and degrees. John is math genius that got drugged in atlantis project. The interactions between the pair are quite interesting to read because their personalities are not reversed, they are pretty much the same just different occupation.

Life in Miniature Motion by Kyizi GEN (or the wee!john series)
When an Ancient machine turns John Sheppard into a child, Rodney McKay is left to cope with the aftermath.
I LOVE this story. I think it’s a great take on John and Rodney’s friendship. The story has humor and sweetness, but remains serious and believable at the same time. And we also see the life on atlantis and many people from stargate project.

No Good Deed by Forestgreen
John is a thief, has PhD and… and everything else probably will be a spoiler.
The pairing is John and Cameron Mitchell, but the developing of their relationship is very interesting. And Rodney still is one of the main characters and has very close friendship with John, so he won’t be missed. This story has bamf!John, love, adventures, team building, secrets, humor; not heavy on angst and has a happy ending!

And All the World Beneath by Seperis
It’s a crossover between sga and supernatural, the pairing: John/Dean Winchester and John/Rodney. Any other time the pairing would probably give me pause but in here it all works. The fic is heavy on the plot, but I mean good heavy: there is mystery, post apocalyptic world, monsters; team dynamics are great. And John gets a psychic power, maybe that will hook you up. By the way, I read your guidelines so it’s totally OK!

Converging by Purna
John saves a man from drowning and takes the long way home.
Finally! McShep! Great story.

P.S. I don’t include links, if you haven’t heard of them, they are easily found on AO3. You probably noticed the lack of McShep. Sorry, I love John and Rodney, but I can explain. When I first discovered sga fandom I collected all the podfics I could find. So if you ask me to name my favorites, those that come to mind already have an audio record. And these five are just off the top of my head. Probably because they are on my alltime favorites list, but I feel they are underrated and deserve to be heard.
Ok, here I stop my ranting. Bye!

Thank you!

Thanks very much for the compliments! To be clear though, I didn't record Hindsight I just mentioned it on Tumblr. Dr-Fumbles-McStupid recorded it. Someone had just requested I record it and when I saw it posted, I shared to let her know. I did do Turn into Something Beautiful. I love that story. Yeah, I pretty much started recording podfic so there would be more stories available that I wanted to hear! I think there may only be 3 or 4 of us currently doing SGA podfic. Thanks very much for the suggestions!

I have read Converging and Life in Miniature Motion and like them very much. I checked and neither author has blanket permission nor can I find permission listed on AO3 or LJ. I can message them or leave them a comment and hopefully they'll answer. I'm willing to consider doing either one but I need to reread them and try reading them aloud. Some fanfic just does not lend itself to podfic! Once I have decided they are workable, I'll ask permission and see what happens. Sometimes I get a happy "yes!" and other times I've not ever heard back. Sometimes it takes a bit to get a response as people have drifted away from the fandom and don't check their accounts. I'll message you if/when I get permission, okay?

Pretty sure I've read Circuitous as I think I've read all Pru's SGA fic. I'll give it a reread. Not a Supernatural fan, so no on that one, sorry. The one that is John/Cam I'm not sure I've read. I'll give it a read, but a story has to really grab me for me to spend the time need to be familiar with it, record it, edit it, listen to it again...

So, to sum up: I'll consider Converging and Life in Miniature Motion, but not likely the others. You did manage to pick two of my favorites though!

I'm currently working on Other Plans by bomberqueen17 and it is a big project. I might be able to squeeze one of these in since they are lots shorter, but it is my current commitment. If you haven't read it, you should give it a try. It is AU and quite good. It is here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1144203/chapters/2316104

Thanks again and I'll be in touch when I know more info.

Reread Circuitous. I had read it before, but not for awhile. I'll put it on the possible list. :) Pru does have blanket permission out there for her stuff to be podficced, so I don't need to ask.

Hello, again! I feel so ashamed, how could I forget about Dr-Fumbles-McStupid. It’s just, the last fifteen sga podfic I listened was made by you, so my brain probably got a little confused. face palm I hope she’ll never know.

Thank you for your consideration and I’m glad about Circuitous. I’ll be waiting for the news, keep up the good work! thumbs up

No worries! I just didn't want to take credit where it wasn't due! Fifteen podfic by me! Yikes! Might I ask if you have a favorite? Or maybe your top two? I have my stats at AO3 so I know which ones have the most hits etc., but I'm just wondering.

Ok, I can do that. Hands down the best are:
Hunting Parties series - one of my favorite authors, and I’m glad that all the parts now in audio.
A Farm In Iowa – wow, just wow. Can’t imagine how hard it was to record.
Taking the B Train – I love the AU stories where there still is Atlantis, but maybe a different road to it.
Paper Cranes (Upstairs, Downstairs) - Rodney+family dinners+mistaken for a couple - what not to like? good pick.

But if you ask about those recent ones, they are:
The Last Survivor (it’s not new, but I only listened to it recently)
Sight Unseen
The Crooked Path and Like a Pigeon from Hell

I swear the fact that they are the lengthy ones are just a coincidence :)

P.S. When you asked I went to check you profile – to make sure I give credit where credit is due, not like last time ;) and I found Hunted by Taste_is_Sweet. I don’t know how I missed it, I regularly check out new records on internet but here it is. It’s a crossover with Hawaii five-o which is a huge bonus for me. I love that fandom but only have ten podfics and it’s not nearly enough, plus I read Aegis but this story is new to me. So I’m in a happy mood and I definitely know what I’ll be listening next!

Yay! Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know what your favorites are. So glad you liked Hunting Parties. John/OMC is not something I often read, but it is LtLJ! Vanrin is awesome. Obviously, I like everything I podfic, but The Farm in Iowa 'verse is my absolute favorite. Cate's writing is sublime and lyrical in places and it is quite easy to read. I find that when I read her stuff it has a different rhythm to it than others. Actually, when reading out loud, each author seems to have their own rhythm and it often affects even that speed at which I read. I know I'm fast and I have to keep myself from reading too quickly sometimes.

I'm glad you liked Last Survivor. That was one I was able to use closest to my own voice on (without as many subtle changes for dialogue) and it was nice. It isn't very popular though. Perhaps because of the original female character. Paper Cranes is a most awesome fic. I laughed out loud when I first read it and kept reading bits of it to my housemate at the time.

I'm glad you found Hunted! It is 5 hours long, so have fun. I've seriously considered doing H50 podfic, but I'm not quite as comfortable with the characters. And writers tend to use quite a bit of Hawaiian language and I'm afraid I'll screw up the pronunciation royally. I wonder if that is why there isn't as much out there? Or maybe the SGA fandom is just better. :)

I guess my first thought would be the Black Helicopters at Dawn series by whizzy https://archiveofourown.org/series/873 though it is sorta long.

What the Sea has to Give by Siria is rather short but absolutely enchanting http://archiveofourown.org/works/21610

Morning Report by thekellylynn is also short but I would love to hear you read it. http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=14424

I am sure that after I think about it for awhile I might have more but these three come to mind immediately.

I've read all of them. Yep, Black Helicopters is too long. I really have to adore a story to record the long ones. I liked it, but... What the Sea Has to Give is gorgeous. I'm pretty sure Siria has blanket permission. I'll put it on the possible list. As for Morning Report, I found thekellylynn on AO3 but she doesn't have any SGA stories listed. Probably the same person, though and she has an email listed. I can ask permission. She also has a LJ account, but I sent her an email first. Sent just now, actually. :)

Okay, thekellylynn said yes and has actually added the story to AO3 for easier linking. I recorded it tonight and will get it edited soon, I hope. Siria didn't have blanket permission, so I sent her an email tonight asking for permission for the one you asked about and for a couple of H50 stories I want to do as well by her.

Update: I heard back from Siria and she has also given her permission, so What the Sea Has to Give goes on the list. :)

Update 2 (7/13/15): What the Sea Has to Give should be posted this evening.

Hi! I think it’s time for some SG1 crossovers, but McShep is the main theme of course :)

Where Eagles Dare... We Will Be Playing Poker a Hundred Miles in the Opposite Direction by dvs
SG-1 are assigned to Pegasus just as Team Sheppard arrives back injured, with the exception of Teyla who temporarily joins Team Lorne. Petty jealousy, unrequited lust and general misunderstandings ensue.

There's No Such Thing as Daniel Jackson by eleveninches
Six months after a devastating attack against Earth, Sheppard gets a promotion and a reassignment to Russia, where he encounters evil aliens, Rodney McKay, SG-1, a possible plot against him -- and a series of unexplained visions.

The next series is hilarious:
It begins with SG-15 by dvs
http://archiveofourown.org/works/59643/chapters/78979

then Leah (Taste_is_Sweet) wrote three SG-15 sequels
http://archiveofourown.org/series/14974

Plus two not x-overs:
Major Redesign by Liondragon
I’m not good with summaries, let’s just say John is not a pilot anymore and Rodney has an office.

Sorry, Wrong Number by omg_wtf_yeah
When John, an IT guy, mistakenly answers a client's phone at the Dream Boys phone sex hotline, he isn't expecting the things coming out of Rodney's mouth to turn him on like they do. But since they do, maybe Rodney doesn't need to know that John doesn't technically work there if it means Rodney keeps it up.

Hey there, I'm glad you came up with some more! I've read the SG-15 stuff, but don't like it enough to podfic it, sorry. The eleveninches story is good, but I'm not really interested in podficcing it. Also a no on Major Redesign and Sorry, Wrong Number. I've read them all. But! All is not lost! I will put Where Eagles Dare on the list. I love the humor in it. I checked and dvs has podfic permission available. I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I still have an SGA and H50 to edit, plus I just recorded a short SGA one tonight that someone else requested. And I recorded a H50 one as well. RL will be taking up more of my time the next couple of weeks as well. But it is on the list! :) Thanks again for the suggestions.

Hi! I don’t use Tumblr, so I’ll post my H50 suggestion here. You can delete it after reading.

Someone already recommended Love's a Battlefield (and the Navy Did Not Train Steve for This Shit) by cyerus.
I second it! It was a first story that came to mind but I couldn’t remember the title.

Months and miles from dreams by ellievolia
AU in which Steve is an active Navy SEAL and Danny is in New Jersey, owning a gym

It seems you aren’t opposed to sentinel/guide theme (you did the record of A.W.O.L series by esteefee), here are three stories:

Sentinel 'Verse by Cattraine
I just LOVE this story. Only problem – the titles in this series is in Hawaiian, but only the titles!

Sentinel and Guide by Elayna
Sentinel-fusion rewrites of the first episode

And the last, Back to Back They Faced Each Other by Harrycrewe

P.S. Even if you’ll decide these SG and H50 stories aren’t fit for audio, just read them (if you haven’t already), It's worth it. Bye!

Okay, I'll need to ask permission via LJ for Love's a Battlefield, but it goes on the possible list. I sent an LJ message tonight. No on the one by elleievolia. Just not feeling it for podfic, but I liked the story. I've read the Sentinel/Guide stories, but had missed the last one, I think. I've read part of it now and don't think I want to podfic it. I enjoyed reading the Elayna stories, but no on the podfic. I think the Cattraine series can go on the list. But, I have to get permission. I sent her an email tonight. Sorry I'm just not feeling the podfic love on some of these!
